RECORDS OF BURIALS AT THE INDIA OFFICE LIBRARY

The following records of burials were transcribed from sources at the India Office Library, part of the British Library now located at King=s Cross (opening times believed to be 9.30am - 6.00pm Monday to Friday; 9.30am to 1.00pm Saturday: free access but bring personal identification).

The main source at the library are the Ecclesiastical Returns, which are manucript records of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials. There are no entries for Deefholts recorded prior to 1851, and the records are quite patchy throughout the remainder of the 19th century. Most of the entries for Burials have been transcribed and are reproduced below.

The Biographical Index is a card index held at the India Office Library which has been compiled from various sources, including the Ecclesiastical Returns, Annual Directories, articles, etc. The index entries for Deefholts are very partial and relate mainly to one branch of the family. In the following tables, where entries not been transcribed from the Ecclesiastical Returns, transcriptions from the Biographical Index have been substituted, where available.
